THE STUDENT AND THE TEACHER
A School is a place to obtain knowledge which will be useful later in the life of the student. For this, the student's mind has to be receptive; it should be ready to absorb and understand the knowledge that is imparted. This requires discipline and eagerness to learn. The mind must not be wandering and thinking of other thoughts. Concentration is what is called for. Where the student doesn't follow what has been taught by the teacher, he or she must seek clarification from the teacher. Asking questions is an important part of learning. Classes must be made as interactive – between the teacher and the student - as possible. The student must not feel shy or constrained to clarify doubts. And it must be the teacher's duty to ensure that the student understands what the student does not understand. Only with clear understanding of what has been taught can a student progress in his or her studies (memorising won't help); successfully complete his or her schooling and college education; and hopefully, make a mark in life. For this to happen, the following are some of the qualities to be exhibited by the student: discipline, hard work, eagerness to learn, single pointed mind, avoid distractions, and respect the teacher and question things one does not understand. The teacher, on his or her part, must make the class interesting and be ready to help students who need assistance. It must be the teacher's duty to ensure that the student understands what has been taught.
I am sure I can look forward to the above happening - if it is not already happening - in our School.
I am glad to mention that from June 2009 the Management will be embarking on a new programme in education. The M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar International School will come into being with 11th and 12th standards, offering the International Baccalaureate programme. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university education and it is widely recognized by the world's leading universities. It is hoped that some of the students of our School will take advantage of this top quality programme.
