Secretary - M.CT.P.Chidambaram
Born on 11th August 1960, M.Ct.P.Chidambaram, did his schooling at the Doon School, Dehra Dun. He is a Commerce graduate from the Loyola College, Chennai, and an MBA from the Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, U.S.A. He hails from the renowned business family who were responsible for establishing the Indian Overseas Bank Ltd., United India Insurance companies, Travancore Rayons Ltd., etc. His great grandfather Late Sir M.Ct.Muthiah Chettiar, was one of the earliest dignitaries to be knighted in South India and he was a member of the Indian Legislative Assembly, Delhi and Simla in the 1920’s. His grandfather, late M.CT.M.Chidambaram Chettiar, was a well known personality, a leading businessman and industrialist of his times and was a member of the Viceroy’s Council of State in Delhi in the 1940s. His Father Sri M.CT.Pethachi is a reputed and well known figure in the Industrial circles in South India, having been the Managing Director of the Travancore Rayons Ltd and served as a Director and Chairman on the boards of several companies Public Ltd., and Government owned.He is now the Managing Director of Sivagami Commercial Company P. Ltd., and is connected with other corporate companies, and family owned coffee plantations in South India. He was largely responsible for setting up the Sivagami Finance & Investments Ltd., on a firm foundation and starting a Trading, Warehousing and Distribution business under the aegis of the Sivagami Commercial Company Pvt. Ltd.,
Chidambaram is connected with the following institutions:
(a) Hony. Secretary, M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar Matric Hr. Sec. School, Chennai; and
(b) Hony. Secretary, M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettiar High School, Kanadukathan, PMT District, Tamilnadu.
His interest in the field of education had led him to introduce various unique programmes in the above schools in Chennai and Kanadukathan, emphasizing all round development of the student. He is associated with one of the leading schools for the disabled children in the city of Chennai, as a Trustee. He is also a committee member of Chennai’s first Amateur English Theatre Group – “The Madras Players”.
He is the Honorary Consul of Finland in South India. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Madras, the Southern India Chamber of Commerce, the Young Presidents Organization and is a member of the Managing Committee of the South India Hire Purchase Association. He is a Committee Member of the Madras Club and a member of most of the leading social clubs in Chennai.
